SPY VALLEY ENVOY

Established by the Johnson family in 1993, Johnson Estate was one of the pioneering vineyard companies nestled in the terraces of Marlborough’s Omaka River. It has since become one of Marlborough’s finest cool climate vineyards, superbly suitable for growing Pinot Noir, Riesling and Pinot Gris.

From vintage 2000, wine was produced and sold under the Spy Valley label. The brand name Spy Valley is derived from a nearby satellite communications monitoring station, a Spy base. The premium Envoy range was released in 2007.

Spy Valley “Envoy” translates as the chosen representative, the message of our place. Envoy is Spy Valley’s single vineyard range. Fifteen years accumulated knowledge of the vineyard has enabled the identification of very special micro-sites in which the soil and vineyard stock have formed great partnerships to produce exceptional fruit. It will only be these grapes that wear the Envoy label. Our winemaking approach with Envoy is deliberately low tech in order to highlight the message of a particular vineyard site. Most importantly, we the honour the best winemaking tool of all...time. Envoy - the message of land and time.
